DO YOU HAVE CHILDREN BORN IN 2018 AND 2019?

Good news! MOH has launched the free Catch-Up Pneumococcal Vaccination (CHUPP) campaign for children born in 2018 and 2019.

WHY DOES YOUR CHILD NEED PNEUMOCOCCAL VACCINATION?

Pneumococcal disease is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteria. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) protects children from potential complications caused by pneumococcal disease such as:

QUESTIONS ABOUT THE VACCINATION

Pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) protects your child against potentially serious, and even deadly infections caused by pneumococcal disease, like pneumonia (lung infection), otitis media (middle ear infection), blood poisoning (sepsis), sinusitis and meningitis.1

Pneumococcal vaccination is safe and effective to prevent pneumococcal diseases.

The side effects that usually occur are usually mild and will go away on their own within a few days. Serious reactions are rare. The side effects may include pain, redness, swelling at the injection site and low-grade fever, and feeling tired.2
You can get the free Catch-up Pneumococcal vaccination by ‘walk-in’ to any nearby MOH Health Clinic or schedule an appointment via the MySejahtera application.3

Malaysia has introduced pneumococcal vaccination in the National Immunisation Programme (NIP) for children since January 2020. MOH would like to extend the coverage of pneumococcal vaccination for children born before 2020, in effort to protect this group before the vaccine was introduced in the NIP.

Children born in 2018 and 2019 would be given one dose of PCV13 vaccination. Doses for children born in 2020 and after would be given based on the immunisation schedule at four months old; six months old; and 15 months old.
